An operating record.
Made public.
This book begins with practices an operation runs, most forced by specific logged failures. The replacement column comes from that work.
The author
Daniel
Willoughby.
An operator writing from a logged record.
Daniel Willoughby founded and operated multiple consumer brands. He was employee #1 at Dandy, scaled it through acquisition, and became CEO after the acquisition.
Today he is CEO of Jinn, the operating system for brands: it knows a brand, acts for it, and learns from what lands. His daily practices building Jinn, and his team's, supply the book's replacement column. Every replacement is a practice they run, most forced by a specific logged failure.
He started four or five businesses without going deep on the technical side. In early 2026, his own commit curve went from single digits to hundreds per month. Engineering was no longer the limit. That shift is the starting point of this book.
He has an MBA from Kellogg and a BBA from Michigan Ross.
About the writing
The writing is Dan’s. In the spirit of the book, AI was used for pieces of the creation: research, editing, and pulling evidence from his work inside Jinn. Fifteen serialized pieces, followed by an expanded manuscript. The book is in progress.
